It’s that time of year when Dunster goes into hibernation, the tourists vanish, and even the village pigeons seem to be on annual leave. So, while things are a bit quieter, we’re temporarily adjusting our bar and food opening times.
But fear not — we haven’t shut ourselves in the cellar with a barrel of cider.
We’re still very much here, still cooking, still pouring, and still ready to welcome you on the days we’re open.
Think of it as The Stag’s Head having a gentle winter stretch… not a full nap.
Once the quiet spell passes and the village wakes up again, we’ll be back to longer hours and more days, bright‑eyed and bushy‑tailed.
Thank you for sticking with us — your support keeps this lovely old pub alive (and stops us talking to the furniture).

A Bath Invasion? What's that? It'sonly an entire evening of live music put together by Drew Neirin ashe brings with him several specially curated acts all the way fromthe City of Bath. We're really looking forward to this one as we canall be guaranteed a night of fantastic live acts , plus the opportunity to see artists which you wouldn't ordinarily see playing this far south. We’ll be open for lunch from 12–5pm, offering eat in or take out so you can enjoy a delicious bite while exploring the Winter Festival.

Exmoor Ales with a beer that's a tad special.... now being brewed back in Wiveliscombe 'Stag' in all it's glory!

Quantock Brewery 's 'Simply the Best'. A beer that's becoming a bit of a favourite amongst their range.

Showing a bit of love for some purveyors of fine Somerset real ales, all the way from the other side of the M5!

On The Level Brew Co 'Amber' returns to the pumps at the Stags, a full flavoured and well balanced dark amber ale.

And another one that's not a stranger to us either, Fine Tuned Brewery with their APA (and the irony is not lost on us here) 'Sunshine Reggae', a smooth and malty golden ale with just the right amount of bitterness.

It's been a week or 2 since we've had any live music , but that's about to change as this Sunday we arelooking forward to hosting localband , Evolution. As a free house, we are lucky to be able to select our own ales. We have built good working relationships with our suppliers. Butcombe Brewery, Quantock, Gloucester Ales, Bath Ales, Otter Ales, On The Level. Each week we introduce a new ale to allow all who drink with us an opportunity to sample a new ale. We are very proud of the ales we have delivered so far, and look forward to working with other brewers.
We are proud to have been chosen to be part of CAMRA's real ale trail this year. If you haven't been to us yet, grab your passport and pop in to try one of our real ales and get yourself another stamp.

Eating with us

Winter 2025 Foodservice days are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 5.30 pm - 8.00 pm. We do not currently serve Sunday lunches. Lunches served Saturdays 1.00 pm -3.00 pm. Our food is homemade and cooked to order. We now do a takeaway service on Tuesday & Friday evenings. Pop in and enjoy one of our ales whilst you wait, telephone orders are welcome. Our menus include vegan, GF & vegetarian options.

Our 1st Halloween Party

We hosted our 1st Halloween Party on Friday 27th of October. We were overwhelmed by the amount of people who participated and dressed up for this event. Music was by our popular local artist Mark Godfrey 'MG Vocalist, we served spook-tacular cocktails, all created by our Front of House Manager 'Ringo'. The pub was decorated, we even had a projector of ghostly images cover the outside of the pub. Ghost reading by Nina Dodd and Tim Weatherall from their new book Giants, Witches and a Ghost Cat.
